|The shooting happened at the Pay Less Inn near 25th and Van Buren streets shortly before 11:30 a.m.,Phoenix police
spokesman Sgt. Armando Carbajal said.
Two adult males arrived at the hotel and got into an argument with a group on the second floor, Carbajal said. One of the
men then pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots.
Carbajal said six people — including the shooter — were shot. Five people were transported to the hospital, where an 18-
year-old woman was pronounced dead. Three of the victims were in critical condition Sunday afternoon.
He described the victims as three males and three females ranging from 18 to 41 years old.
The entrance to the faded yellow hotel across the street from the Arizona State Prison Complex was still blocked off well
into the afternoon as investigators ducked in and out of the upper-story hotel room.
One passerby told The Arizona Republic another shooting wasn't anything new.
Dalachia McGill said she drove down to the hotel from Glendale as soon as she heard about the shooting.
Her brother, Leroy Wood, wasn't in the room when the shooting happened, but McGill said his longtime girlfriend was the
woman who died.
She watched from the curb as Wood spoke to police behind the bright yellow caution tape circling the property.
"She was a real happy girl," McGill said of the woman who was killed. "She was in school and trying to get her life
together. She really loved my brother."
Police are still searching for the other man who arrived with the shooter, Carbajal said. Investigators do not believe he is a
threat to the community, he said.
Anyone with information should call the Phoenix Police Department at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
Twenty-fifth street was closed from East Van Buren to Adams street while police investigated the scene.
